Devos Catch Up - Love does not Boast, Love is not Rude

Here are a couple of thoughts from Kate & Brenden’s devos.

Love Does Not Boast - Kate

Kate led her devo on “Love does not boast”. She shared James 4:6, which says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble”. Kate mentioned that we shouldn’t be boasting in what we have or in our skills because it is all a gift from God and we should be pointing back to him. But as we grow in our faith and share about our relationship with Christ it is a positive thing to boast about. She looks at Mr. and Mrs. Anderson back at home - they don’t boast about their marriage, but they have a really good marriage and set an example to all. Others can watch them and see that what they have is good. So the same thing with our lives or our athletic skills, we don’t need to say anything, we just need to give our best and be excellent in what we do so it reflects back on Christ.

Love is Not Rude

Brenden led his devo on “Love is not rude”. He shared Ephesians 4:32 - “Be kind and compassionate towards one another, forgiving one another as Christ forgave you.” Brenden talked about how people seem to be rude to people they don’t need or who they view as less than themselves. We should never have that view because God views all of us the same. He said that instead of being rude, we need to think about what we say - be gentle, cut the sarcasm, be kind, acknowledge people when they are walking through your life. Carolyn added that once again, this isn’t a natural response - our sinful nature means our first inclination is to be rude sometimes, but we need to  depend on the Holy Spirit to produce the fruit in our lives. As we grow in our faith we should become less and less rude.
