2023 - And We're Off!



Team Costa Rica is on the plane to Houston! We then have a 7 hour layover before our second leg to San Jose, Costa Rica. It's a long day of travel, but gives us lots of time for team bonding & napping after a crazy week ending the semester before our trip! Please be praying for us this week!

Day 3 - Church, Painting, Soccer, and Food!

(More photos to come tomorrow) Today we woke up and had breakfast at the hotel. Most of the students had granola and yogurt (American Breakfast), but a couple brave souls ventured out to get Costa Rican Breakfast (Gallo Pinto, Cheese, and Bread). After breakfast we hopped on the bus to head back up to Limon for a church service at Señora Harrison’s sister Loretta’s church. The church is a more charismatic church, so it was new experience for many of our students! Only three of our kids had seen people using scarves/flags in worship before, only three had sat under a female pastor’s teaching before, and only two had seen people slain in the spirit. While the service was in Spanish, many people on our team caught the gist of what we were talking about and understood some of the worship songs - specifically when we were singing about the names of God, being in the arms of God, and of course, when they sung part of Waymaker in English. Day 1 - Travel Day

First, thank you so much to all of our friends and family who have helped support us financially and in prayer to make this trip possible. Please continue to be in prayer for our 18 students and 4 chaperones for safety, opportunity, and boldness as we travel about Costa Rica this week working with various ministries. Day 1–Travel Day Today we met at VCHS for a time of prayer with our families before we got on the bus to head to the airport! Our flight was about 6 hours with no delays or issues and we landed in Costa Rica around 7 PM. As soon as we made it through customs and walked out of the airport our hosts Ronald and Ricardo were there to meet us and help us load our bags into a truck. While we were waiting for the passenger bus our boys started cranking their Latin tunes and we had a full on dance party at the airport. The party didn’t stop when our driver, Enrique, arrived! 2023 - Day 4, Part 2: Team Reflections

 Here are our team reflections from yesterday: Jacob - the coconut guy was really generous. We found a bad coconut and he went in his house and picked out 6 fresh coconuts to open for us. He didn't have much, so him sharing this felt like a big deal! Jake - It's just a good reminder of how big the world is. While I'm at school every day all of this is going on - it's just weird to think about.  Emily - She was just impressed by the girls and Scottie working hard at painting. They just put on worship music on and sat in it for a couple hours while working. Jose - He just thought it was interesting how the kids would just swarm around these little tiny toys - it meant a lot to them. Isaac - Thought it was so cool/interesting that we ran into Ignacio three times - once when we were painting, once at the school, and once when he was walking back from school Talon - the kids know all the celebrations of all the soccer players.
